Email Notifications

Stay informed about survey activity. Receive email notifications for new responses, milestones, and important events without constantly checking your dashboard.

Quick Start

Set up notifications in three steps:

  1. Open notification settings - Go to your survey, then click the Notifications tab
  2. Choose frequency - Select instant, daily digest, weekly digest, or none
  3. Enable milestones - Toggle milestone notifications on or off

Notification Settings

Per-Survey Settings

Configure notifications for each survey from the survey's Notifications tab:

Setting Options
Frequency Instant, Daily digest, Weekly digest, Never
Milestones On/Off toggle

Frequency options:

  • Instant - Email for each response (best for low-volume surveys)
  • Daily digest - Summary once per day
  • Weekly digest - Summary once per week
  • Never - No email notifications for this survey

Global Notification Preferences

Configure your overall notification preferences from Settings > Notifications:

Delivery Channels:

  • Email notifications (on/off)
  • In-app notifications (notification bell)
  • Browser push notifications (desktop alerts)

Email Frequency:

  • Instant delivery
  • Daily digest
  • Weekly digest

Muted Types: Mute specific notification types you do not want to receive:

  • Survey response completed
  • Survey opened/closed
  • API rate limit warnings
  • Team member joined
  • Response milestone reached
  • Webhook failures
  • Quota reached
  • Suspicious API activity

Response Milestones: Customize which response counts trigger milestone notifications. Default milestones are 100, 500, and 1000 responses. Add custom milestones up to 1,000,000.

Team Notifications (Owners Only): Team owners can enable notifications about all team member activity.

Browser Push Notifications

Receive desktop notifications in your browser even when not actively using the app:

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications
  2. Enable "Browser push notifications"
  3. Click "Allow Notifications" when prompted
  4. Approve the browser permission request

Note: If you previously denied notifications, you will need to update your browser settings to allow notifications for this site.

Notification Types

Type Description
Response completed Someone finished your survey
Survey opened Survey became active
Survey closed Survey was closed
Milestone reached Survey reached a response count milestone
Quota reached Survey quota is full
Webhook failed Webhook delivery failed after retries
Team member joined New member joined your team
API rate limit API request limits approached
Suspicious API activity Unusual API usage detected

Milestone Notifications

Get notified when your surveys reach response milestones:

Default milestones: 100, 500, 1000 responses

Customize milestones:

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications
  2. Add or remove milestone thresholds
  3. Set any value between 1 and 1,000,000
  4. Click "Reset to defaults" to restore defaults

For per-survey settings, use the milestone toggle in the survey's Notifications tab.

Real-World Examples

Example: Academic Research

Scenario: Running a 2-week study with a target of 200 responses.

Per-survey settings:
- Frequency: Daily digest
- Milestones: Enabled

Global settings:
- Custom milestones: 50, 100, 150, 200

Result:
- Daily email with progress summary
- Notified at each quarter milestone
- No email overload during active collection

Example: High-Volume Feedback Survey

Scenario: Customer feedback survey expecting 1000+ responses.

Per-survey settings:
- Frequency: Weekly digest
- Milestones: Enabled

Global settings:
- Milestones: 250, 500, 750, 1000

Result:
- Weekly summary only
- Milestone alerts at key points
- Manageable email volume

Example: Low-Volume Internal Survey

Scenario: Employee survey with expected 20-30 responses.

Per-survey settings:
- Frequency: Instant
- Milestones: Disabled

Result:
- Email for each response
- Know immediately when someone responds
- No milestone alerts needed

In-App Notifications

View notifications without leaving the app:

  1. Click the bell icon in the header
  2. See recent notifications
  3. Click to view details
  4. Mark as read/unread

In-app notifications appear for all notification types regardless of email settings.

Managing Notifications

Muting Notification Types

Stop receiving specific types of notifications:

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications
  2. Check the notification types you want to mute
  3. Save preferences

Muted types will not send emails or show in-app notifications.

Unsubscribing

Stop all email notifications:

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications
  2. Toggle off "Email notifications"
  3. Save preferences

Or disable notifications for a specific survey:

  1. Open the survey's Notifications tab
  2. Set frequency to "Never"

Email Delivery Issues

If you are not receiving notifications:

  • Check spam/junk folder
  • Add [email protected] to contacts
  • Verify email address in account settings
  • Confirm notification is enabled and not muted

Troubleshooting

Issue: Not receiving notifications

Symptoms: No emails arriving despite survey activity.

Solutions:

  • Check spam/junk folder
  • Verify email address in account settings
  • Confirm notification is enabled (not set to "Never")
  • Check if notification type is muted
  • Wait for digest period if using daily/weekly

Issue: Too many notifications

Symptoms: Inbox flooded with emails.

Solutions:

  • Switch to daily or weekly digest
  • Set frequency to "Never" for high-volume surveys
  • Mute notification types you do not need

Issue: Browser notifications not working

Symptoms: Push notifications not appearing.

Solutions:

  • Ensure browser push is enabled in settings
  • Check browser notification permissions
  • Click the lock icon in address bar to verify site permissions
  • Try a different browser if unsupported

Issue: Missing milestone notifications

Symptoms: Did not receive notification at milestone.

Solutions:

  • Check if milestone notifications enabled for survey
  • Verify milestone threshold exists in settings
  • Check muted types (milestone.responses should not be muted)

Best Practices

  • Match frequency to volume - Instant for low-volume, digest for high-volume
  • Use milestones - Track progress without constant checking
  • Enable browser push - Get notified even when not on the site
  • Mute unnecessary types - Reduce noise from irrelevant notifications
  • Review periodically - Adjust settings as your needs change
